BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Adelia Bovell-Benjamin is currently a Research Professor of Food and Nutritional Sciences in the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences (CAENS), Tuskegee University at the University of California. She earned a PhD in Nutrition with a Designated Emphasis in International Nutrition and a minor in Epidemiology, and holds postdoctoral certificates in Measuring Health Disparities, Leadership Development, and Qualitative Research from the University of Michigan, University of Georgia and Burke Institute, respectively. She held several positions internationally and nationally at the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago.
Dr. Adelia Bovell-Benjamin received several honors and awards for her contribution to the profession, including: the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Section Outstanding Volunteer Award (Hall of Honor); Faculty of the Year Performance Award (highest university award), Tuskegee University; Russell Brown Award for Excellence in Research, Tuskegee University Chapter of Sigma Xi, and so on. She has also written extensively on the sweet potato. also serves as a technical peer reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals, sits on the editorial boards of journals, has authored several peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. She has also served as the Chair of two successful International Food and Nutrition Conferences where in both instances more than 25 countries were represented. She is also an avid member of several professional organizations.
Dr. Adelia Bovell-Benjamin's research interest includes Product development (Emphasis on sweet potato and organic products), sensory science; and diet and nutrition issues and cancer prevention in African Americans; and the food environment in rural areas.
